Know One

Everyone deserves to be known.

Know One is a suicide prevention initiative focused on recognizing hidden suffering before it becomes a crisis.

Being surrounded is not the same as being known.

Some people can appear social, active, successful, and connected while carrying serious distress privately. Being around others does not always mean someone feels seen, understood, or safe to speak about what they are going through.

Know One focuses on deeper human connection, earlier recognition, and practical suicide prevention education. Social activity alone does not explain or predict every person's experience of distress.

Reduce the time between suffering and support.

Know One translates suicide prevention research into practical tools that help people recognize changes in themselves, know the people around them more deeply, and connect suffering with meaningful support earlier.

What Know One will do

  • Research Translation

Turn suicide prevention research into understandable public education.

  • Earlier Recognition

Help people recognize changes, distress, isolation, shame, entrapment, and suicidal thinking earlier.

  • Practical Tools

Develop usable frameworks for individuals, friends, families, workplaces, and communities.

  • Recovery Awareness

Support better understanding of the period after suicidal ideation, crisis, or an attempt.

The CAMP Initiative

The CAMP Initiative is Know One's research and development effort to build an evidence-informed suicide prevention framework. The framework does not exist yet. The initiative is where that work begins.

You do not need to be a therapist to notice a change.

Knowing someone's usual patterns can help you recognize meaningful changes in behavior, communication, substance use, isolation, mood, or routines. Noticing a change is not the same as diagnosing a problem, and you are not expected to resolve it on your own.

Thoughtful attention and a willingness to stay connected can make it easier for someone to accept support when they are ready.

If you need help now

Know one person beyond the surface.

Because no one should suffer invisibly.
